I rinse with steaming hot water before I put my hands in the tank, no soap, just to be sure my hands are clean.

After cleaning/maintenance I do the same thing, only I add some soap to the mix. Its not that I think the tank is dirty, there's just no reason not to.

Wife is a nurse and she has some horror stories about bacteria picked up from aquatic environments. Not saying I still don't drink my fair share of tank water, but try to wash when I am done. Also always wash well before so nothing gets into the water from me.

i always used to just use a length of clear hose to do a water change and suck on the pipe to get it going and have swallowed a small amount of tank water before, never did me any harm ,and no i don't usually wash my hands after unless i'm making food, i know i probably should really.
i'm a mechanic by trade so i do wash my hands before they go in the tank, i'm more worried about my fish catching something off me :)

Before and after. Because of all my tanks, my hands and nails stay jacked up. The minute I lotion them up, I have to wash the lotion off just to mess with the tanks again for some reason.
