I've never seen the show, but where were the Italian American protesters when Sopranos was on, or for movies like the Godfather etc (guess that gangster movies are ok cause they come across as cool). I didn't even hear anything when that Gotti show was airing (and those people were fools). Generalities are just that, they are made because there are a group of people that fit them, and those who just don't play into the stereo type shouldn't assume themselves apart of that generality.
Now having said that I feel that Northern NJ should emancipate itself from the Jersey Shore 
I agree . I am Italian American and find people way to sensetive not to mention hypocrites because the guido culture in NY is alive and thriving lol.
I used to work out in this guido gym where the 3 predominant names were Louie
- Sal and Tony .
When it was packed . I would go out to my car call the gym .
Owner who was the ultimate juiced and angry guido would answer and in my best woman's voice I would say "Hi this is Sal,,etc mom can you please tell him to bring home a can of Ragu tomato sauce after he finishes working out"
The owner would than yell out "Hey Sal/Tony,etc your mom is on the phone she needs Ragu tomato sauce".
1/3 of the gym would go balistics screaming that no way their mom would ever use store bought tomato sauce.
I would than go back to the gym and it was like a movie how enraged some of these guys got because the owner "implied" that their mom used Ragu sauce

I used to do all types of stuff and they were just to easy to manipulate and enrage.
