anyone weld their own metal tank stands

Square steel would work for me, then. I honestly don't care a whole lot about looks- I'm going to paint the whole thing flat black. It's just storage for me, and not much more than that. Display tanks are on nicer stands, this is intended to hold things like quarantine/hospital tanks, and fish fry or amphibian larva.
 
if you want to weld up a fast strong stand and either have the materials already and have the money just get your self some square tubing, clean it, sand the mill scale off, use a belt grinder or a fllaper wheel to lightly bevel the edges of the tubing, get some angle magnets and MIG it all together, you could TIG weld it but it is not worth the time, and make sure you dont start welding till after everything is secured and tacked because it will warp. angle iron will work just as well you might need to add some supports but the square tubing would like alot nicer but a little pricier
