Well i am a tattoo artist and from a professional point of view it is better to bring your artist as many ideas as possible, that way they have more of a feel of your personality by the ideas you like then they can put that together with their own and come up with some thing nice. I wish more people would do that then just come in to a shop and think we are suposse to know whats on your mind. As an artist i can only draw whats on my mind unless i have an idea of what you want. I think what you are doing is a great idea it gives the artist more of an opportunity to come up with some thing that fits you better. And by the way smpage i would never want to tattoo anyone who can come up with their own ideas either. just my two cents

Maybe I'm just spoiled then. I have an artist who works with my ideas. I can say to him "hey, I want a Hi-C juice box tattooed on me" and he will draw the most beautiful Juice Box you've ever seen. He and I have a lot of trust in each other and it works out to some amazing artwork.

if your artist friend has known you for awhile, then he knows what you like(i have several people i can do that with)but if i just meet some one or first time doingwork on them the only way i can inderstand what they like is to see example of what they like, that why i love people to bring pics(most people are only going to pic pictures they like so thereore i will have an idea who they are)I sometimes i dont always like what i draw myself and can expect everyone to like what i draw either. Just because i am a good artist doesn,t mean my ideas will please everyone.its always a great thing to trust your artist, but that trust has to go both ways.i need to know my client in order to build up a trust with them.

thanks Buddha. - That is a really beautiful piece, did you do it?

I do want to add, in my opinion, when it is a living thing being tattoo'd, it is different than, say, a flower... I could go in and say "I want a Wisteria bush in full bloom * and give a few more details)" and come back later to pick out my favorite wisteria picture... With a living thing you are trying to capture the spirit in one frame, it's hard. If she were living I could try getting a picture that just captures her soul and bring it in, but when I lost her I got rid of most of the pics I had of her because I was so hurt, I just didn't want to see her face. I really regret it, and I have to work with the pics I have.

I agree with buddha, one of my best friend is tattoo artist and he just finished my sleeve but he knows what i want and designs and all i know from goin to his shops seein people walk in and just ask for something and artist is like ok, give me your ideas, and they work together,

Another idea I just got was combining another type of tattoo I wanted, which was to celebrate my indian heritage... this was just a spur of the moment thing I thought of.

To have the wisteria growing as the dream catcher (the actual frame I'd like to be braided wisteria vine), and her picture on the hide part in the middle.
(You see why I asked for help with the drawing now LOL )
