Anyone with experience with the Emperor 400 bio-wheel filter?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I like the 400 because it is a huge potential media basket. The AC's seamed to be loud(motor noise) contrary to belief, however, I have had 400's that made motor noise as well. Best bang for the buck IMO.

i have em both. not as much flexibility with media tho on the emp 400

This is exactly the opposite. The media possibilities for an emp400 Are pretty much unlimited. Sponge, filter floss, carbon, bio rings, whatever you wanna put in. I use the standard filters that are suppose to in it untill they start to deteriorate...which takes forever, and i use filter fiber in the media containers. They make hardly no sound as long as lessen the distance the return water has to fall. For the money man you can't beat um, IMO.

Yeah, mine makes noise -not terribly loud at all though, but it really does it's job. My 55 is overstocked and it keeps up.

I have 2 400's running and I love them. I can add anything I want to them for media and mechanical filtering. They have such a large basin to use. Fully adjustable spray bars for the wheels to run them fast to slow as you want. Like stated before if you keep the water level up, runs quiet as can be. Very servicable too if anything should break. Everything comes apart and is replacable and parts are cheap.

I have owned both and I prefer the AC110, I also feel like it is a better built unit.

Now, if its an issue of money, the emperor 400 is still a fine HOB, and wouldnt hesitate to recomend it too.
