i have never seen a male holding, that is wild and that is a male kenyi... that is wild
when young they both look quite a bit alike..but if this one is older haha.. then yes that would be funny.

It's gender confused. It's a good parent though. I'm going to go get two baby nets tomorrow and put five in each until they're about an inch long and then release them or sell them. I stripped her last night because I had NO IDEA that it was fry. I put her back in with them and she scooped them back up so she may not be ready but she's getting really skinny so ready or not she's being stripped permanantly tomorrow.

They all looked healthy save one. And about a quarter ofan inch so she sounds ready to be stripped. It's been about three to four weeks because I couldn't ever get her close enough to net her. She's acting like she's ready to breed again so...

If you look at the fish you see the broken bars and spots in areas. This fish is not from good stock lines. It is not a salousi for sure. I would think more like it is a female showing male coloration (can happen). Worse case it is hybrid of Kenyi and other fish and that could explain the coloration.

I've seen female fish take on male coloration while holding. My white top haras would do it, it was wild. I think it's done in an effort to keep the males away.

Yeah not too worried about it. I still love her and the babies.

I agree its most likely some hybrid that sort of looks like a male kenyi.
Let spit fry in the tank. A few will make it here and there.
