Anything comparable to the FX5?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ive read some articles about how the fx5/6 only hold something like 20% more bio media that a regular old fluval 406. The fx is huge and doesn't seem to utilize the space very efficiently. I've never owned an Fx just due to the price and all the negative reviews I've seen on the boards.

For like $70 you can get a sunsun 304 rated at 525gph with 5 media trays . I have some model 302's which I love. Quality surpassed my (low) expectations. The spray bars kind of suck, that's my only complaint. And if it breaks down, it cost 1/6 the price of an eheim 2262. So w/e

If im not mistaken the issue with the oddysea cfs500 is the orings are too large and will break the piece that slides over the coupler. Smaller orings solves the issue

Are the I rings that come with it brand new just not good? What problems have you had with these?

The o-rings I'm referring to are the 4 that seals the water control valve to the canister. They are too thick. It goes on easy enough, but getting it off requires brute strength. Then after awhile the o-ring will just get stay permanently stretched and becomes damaged/useless.

This hasn't happened to me, but I've read that some people have a minor leak issue with the water flow control valve. These are the valves that controls the flow of water from the hoses. I guess there's an o-ring in there that also gets damaged from wear and tear. However, they are only about $12 for a new set. That's about the only negatives I've read about in researching about these Odyssea filters.
