16 Reds in a 55gal? Mate thats riduculous...Your not expecting to keep them all in that tank long term are you? The nitrates and ammonia must be going crazy

I suppose you could keep an eigenmanni or a mac in a 55gal but i personally wouldnt

why not?

Just for the sheer fact i think that a 55gal would be too small...ok sure you COULD keep either one in it...but if i owned a fish as beautiful as either a mac or eigen...i would want it to thrive and be as comfortable as possible...i dont think either could reach its full potentionl in a tank that size

a 55 is plenty big for an eigenmanni or a mac, they will only reach 6-8" in captivity, that would leave them quite a bit of room to be comfortable

No problem Matt ;)

JoeDizzleMPLS...I agree an eigen would max at 6"-8"...if kept in a 55gal...where as if he was kept in a 90 or even a 120gal...you would could push for about 9"-10"

All im saying is that IMO an eigen would be happier...thrive better and just be more comfortable on a whole in a tank bigger than a 55gal...like i said before...if i had such a beautiful fish...i wouldnt take any chances

Just out of curiosity...what size tank do you have your eigenmanni in?

the largest recorded size for an eigenmanni is 9" and specimens over 6" aren't very common in the hobby. big tanks are nice, but just because it can go in a bigger tank doesn't necessarily mean that it has to in order for it to be comfortable and "happy".

my eigenmanni is between 3 and 4 inches and he's in a 30 long for now.
