Even though I should be studying, I am on MFK, but for good reason says the little yellow bird on my shoulder.:nilly:

So I've been thinking about getting an apartment before school starts back up again. 3 monthish. I would only be me technically, and I want a dog (basset hound:)) and my fish of course somewhere. I was looking around and it seems I could get a 1 bedroom for $500 including trash and water or electricity I think, not sure which one. Just depends on where I would go. I have over 500 in the savings and put $50 into the savings every week. And I make just shy of 250 not counting the $50 every week that goes to the bank, so I could do it.

I was wondering though how much electricty and water would cost for 1 person in a 1 bedroom apartment. Just estimates if anyone knows. I do live in Ohio, IDK if other states pay more for water and etc. but any info would be great!! I live with my parents now and go to school and work, and there's nothing wrong with living with the parents but IDK I just want to be left alone at times plus want to grow up and take some responsibility. I mean, I pay for nothing here besides like..................well I can't even think of anything I actually pay towards the house and etc. So ya, thanks again MFK, you guys and gals have always helped me out.

Electricity on a 1 bed with fish tank should not exceed $50/mo.Water is normally cheep($25/mo) A few things you may need to consider though, there is usually a deposit equal to the rent required, a credit check is normal($25), many landlords charge a pet deposit for cleaning and/or de-fleeing of the unit too. Dogs are destructive if left alone in an apartment. Bassets are born diggers and can go through carpet fast. Flooring being a major cost in rentals. And, when establishing rental history, landlords talk to each other about tenants and recommending them, the destruction of your first apartment could be a set back. Anyways, just a couple things to mull over.

Thanks for the info on water and electricity, cheaper than I expected. Yeah I know the deposit will be a lot, that's why I want to save up for a little and have extra money in case anything unexpectedly happens.

The puppy will be in a cage when I'm not home, but we've had dogs before and yeah they always end up eating/destroying something. Thanks alot!!!

Another question for whoever. Do I tell them I have fish tank. Should I tell them I will be bringing in a 125 and etc. or just keep this on the DL. :)

Prices add up quickly... I live in Atlanta 1 bed room apartment (~900 sqr ft). I have a large amount of aquariums going (1500 gallons). With heaters and my air almost always on my utility bill (garbage, electricity, water) gets up to 230 during the summer.

Remember also a dog gets very expensive quickly. (I just have a cocker spaniel but after shots and other little problems like ear infections, food, heart worm pills flea control she cost me easily 2000 the first year.)

If you have a car that will be another expense. Cable? Internet? (I assume you already have a phone.) Insurance?

In other words as a grad student in Atlanta it is possible to live by yourself but I easily spend over 1700 just for my apartment, utilities, dog and food. Which means things like insurance and fun comes from saved money. Of course my apartment costs 500 more a month then what you are looking at.

(Water insurance is only ~25 a year for a tank flooding.)

Damn, maybe I just won't tell them. I could take the tank in at night, lol. I mean some water is going to spill anyways, it just happens.

I will be having only 210 gallons and I think the square footage was like 600ish, IDK but yeah the air would be on msot of the time for the dog.

Yeah true forgot about all of these dang shots puppies need. I would be bored out of my mind if I just had to keep myself busy, lol.

Ya need my internet and cable would be nice, but not required.

Thanks alot!!! Made me think of a few things. I'll have to save up like I said to get everything going and started, internet, cable and dog, but it'll be worth it. I do have three months to save. Thanks again!

Stay with mom and dad as long as you can it is free. Save your money and then move out next school year. Also forget the dog you won't have the proper amount of time to pay attention to it.

Take the advantage staying with your parents as much as you can.. TRUST ME. It ain't that easy to be on your own.
