API ammonia test question

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I always have trouble matching the ammonia card. I found that if you put a very bright white piece of paper behind the test tube that works well too.

What water conditioner are you using? Prime? Jungle Labs? AmmQuel?

My personal opinion is API test results are not that reliable..

I don't use the ammonia/nitrite card much. basically if ammonia shows anything then I know the cycle has started. Then after a few days I check nitrites, if it shows something then great on to nitrates if not then wait till it spikes.

Now the Nitrate card is dumb. The last three or four are all shades of red. The 20 and 40ppm colors I can never tell the diff. Maybe going outside will help.
I bought the seachem test kit for my nitrates much easier to read. I got it because the API one is so damn hard to read :nilly:

Seachem sells test kits? Do they have a master test kit like API? I havent seen them in shops - maybe just cause I havent been looking for them. Where did you buy yours?
