API nitrate test

Why oh why oh why are the 2 shades of orange on the API test card that represent 10 and 20ppm so damn similar? Argubly the most critical test we do and also around the 10 and 20 mark is such a critical cut off point. Do API do a nitrate test kit that tests in single ppm increments where maybe the colours are a lot more determinable, or am i forever going to have to say to myself, "well, today my nitrate reading is 10ppm.......er, hang on, or is that 20ppm", arggghhhh!

Yeah I feel the same way about those tests. If I could find a reliable digital test for our parameters I think I would buy it.

Yup. Before I did my monthly vacuum and 50% WC I did the common API tests. All seem fine and got solid orange for nitrate which is fine for my tank. I just chalked it up as being 20ppm as I really could not definitely decide between the two. Although I'd like to know, I wanted to see where things were based on my increased feeding and the inhabitants growing up.
 
I go by the any hint of red thought, long as in the orange when I do my water changes I am happy, if I am reading red, I am going to need to change things up.
