My water source is rain water, it basically never changes. I just make sure to have a good couple handfuls of coral fingers in my filters and the PH stayed stable at just under 7 for the couple years I kept track of it after that.Like most things in this hobby, one size rarely fits all.
My water source is a glacier fed river, and I don't need to check anything on a regular basis. I already understand how & when the shifts from season to season will be, and I react accordingly. I can smell spring run off before the city posts it's water report. And for those that have a city or town that posts water quality reports I highly recommend utilizing those reports. My city posts monthly reports, using equipment far more sophisticated than I have ever owned.

Though, if I could get a good quality aquarium computer for a good price that would track all the relevant stats without having to constantly replace or calibrate probes, I'd probably do it. More out of curiousity than anything.
Most of my answers are catered to the new aquarists with only a couple years experience, or less.
I figure the vets are already familiar with what I say, and either believe in my techniques, or not, and have come up with strategies that work for them, so don't require any help.
