their ammo-carb is for sale at 6 dollers for a 40 oz continer worth it?

Sounds like an okay deal, but it would probably be cheaper to address the cause of whatever it is that would make you want to use chemical filter media i.e. tannins, medication, copper, ammonia spike, etc. And if you don't have any of that type of issue you don't need chemical filter media.

but the chemical as in carbon makes the water "clear"er thats all i use it for and ammonia removes is just a "extra" but i have never used the API thats y i asked

i think of it as a safe gaurd thats all i cycle tanks just like every one else on this wedsite (i hope) and i just like it have ammonia remover just incase lol u can never be to carfull can u?

Your beneficial bacterial colony grows proportionately with the amount of food it has in the tank AKA ammonia... So if you are using a product that removes ammonia, you are going to have less beneficial bacteria... What happens when your ammonia removing product stops working? =Ammonia spike from the small beneficial bacteria colony.

Yeah I think ammonia absorbers are really only useful in crisis management. I'm not going to tell anyone not to use carbon, but I don't use activated carbon on any of my 5 tanks, nor does my sister or my girlfriend on any of their tanks, and all tanks have excellent water clarity. Maybe if I did use carbon the water would be even clearer, but as is, it's as clear as I could ever want.

ok that makes sence (i would always replace the ammonia eater every two weeks so it wouldnt run out) but now that i know this it will help me save money :) thanks guys
