Hyphessobrycon flammeus the flame tetra,bloodfin tetras,and thoracochorax hatchet fish are just some that can be found in the wild with borelli in the lower rio parana Argentina.
If you want to breed the Apistogramma, they may be better off on their own.
However I would recommend hatchet fish as they live, eat and sleep at the surface and would pose little risk to fry.

Well I got a little carried away at the LFS.
I moved out the long finned tetra, horse head loach and two spare female fighters.
I've not kept to the biotope but at least we are all south American now.
Stock;
Borelli pair
Gold nugget pleco (tiny)
3 bronze cory
3 skunk Cory
6 glowlight tetra
A harem of endlers ( figured live food for the others in the baby's.)

Added a 3d background:-)
