Yeah I have mixed feelings on it myself....on the one hand it would seem that Apple should be duty bound to help get that device unlocked in order for the authorities to gain access to any information that might be useful, and on the other there is that possibility of hackers learning how to take advantage if Apple were to cooperate.

Plus, do we want to open this can of worms? Once it's done the FBI can claim anyone and everyone is a terrorist and everyone's phone needs to be opened.

My first thoughts, exactly. Any facet of the DoD can do this with ease so why the formality?

Legality. If it ever goes to court, they can show the courts the fact the a judge ordered Apple to comply. If they hacked it, any evidence would be inadmissible.

Here on the local area news an official made a statement. I believe she is a state prosecutor. She said the they have several such phones in evidence that are locked and that she would very much like to be able to get at the information. To me this indicates the issue will not be limited to a single phone for the FBI, but many such among the various states.

I wonder if the android phones are also as hard to get into once they are locked?
