Just wondering what the appropriate ph level should be in keeping rays. Why does it need to be this way? Also, what happens if acclimated to a different ph? Last but not least, what is the ph level in your ray tanks? Thanks everyone

Whatever comes out of your tap is the best ph to use. Trying to change your ph to it's natural enviorment will lead to many problems when your ray gets larger and your ph starts to bounce.

Be sure to do the bucket test and see if your tap is artificially buffered with gases. My tap comes out at 7.2 and drops to 6.6 overnight. So I buffer it to around 7.0 and everyone's healthy so far...

Thank you for the fast replies! My ph stays at a constant 8.0. Tap is 7.8 if I remember correctly, but I do know tank ph is always at 8.0. The reason I'm asking is 1. I'm thinking about keeping a ray. 2. I believe that messing w/ ph is asking for trouble sooner or later and for some reason, I keep hearing that rays need low low ph. Thank you again!

They are sensitive to fluctuating ph but can adapt to a constant ph between 6-8

Be very careful when adding them to the tank that would probably be the time it will matter most

I adjust my pH to around 6.8 as I have read thats a good pH for my Motoro ( my tap water is 7.8 - 8.1 randomly) I wouldn't even keep goldfish in the tapwater here.

Mine is a steady 7.5

If your ph goes up from tap to tank then I would ask why....there must be something in the tank that is raising the ph.

Ph 8 is fine if constant.
