appropriate tank size?

Like any fish, some Haitians are more or less aggressive than others.

My pair, which grew to over a foot each, were perfectly happy and healthy in a 75g...and weren't particularly "nasty" with other Central Americans or other fish in a 125g (when I had them in there).

Others, evidently, kill dovii twice their size on a whim and would require a flooded basement to possibly accomodate a single fish.

I wouldn't worry a bit about growing out 6 to find a nice pair in a 75g...and then moving a pair to a 6' tank for life.

Where did I say flooded basement, oh you just add to posts as you see fit. I have had black nastys for 20+ years so maybe I just speak from experience. Maybe yours are hybrids from walmart and thats why they are so docile. Every one I have kept and I have never even tried a pair in a comm. tank whether they were introduced first last or in between was as an aggressive a cichlid as I have ever seen. They have grown anywhere from 10 - 15 inches. Have I seen them kill dovii...no but I have seen them attack jags, devils, midas, flowerhorns etc. and thats why they are solo. But what do I know!

Oh okay, thanks for the info :). I have a 90 gallon tank right now, and would love to raise a pair of Haitiensis. So with all the info, it looks like if later I move up to a 6 ft tank then that would be enough space for a pair? I have never seen another aggressive cichlid in the tank with a grown Haitiensis, have any body seen that?

I say 125 gallon due to their aggression.
