i think it will be alright ..but let us know...polish;2969967; said:My PC is working ok at work but last night at home about 1am my GF was on ours and it locked up right as she unplugged her MP3 player. The screen went all blue with some error message, it was late and I needed to go to bed so we just unplugged it. I am hoping when I get home at lunch it fires back up and doesn't have this new virus...
i think i will try several trial versions until i find one i like.. i have always used norton... but i think norton has always interferred with my other programs and just the over all pc in general... and they have improved as far as getting back to you..but still not exceptional...cichlid2006;2969950; said:it doesnt matter what internet security suite you have, they all fail at something compared to the others. there is no perfect suite.
i use bullguard v8.5. good package, easy to use (great for novices), updates throughout the day (everyday), the support team also get back to you within 1hr 95% of the time with help on getting rid of infections that are particularly stubborn and its very light on system resources. it isnt so good for malware but i use malwarebytes for the tough ones.
it is little known compared to AVG, Norton, McAfee etc. but it is good.

thanks i think symantec is a hog...i think that is why my internet explorer wants to shut down sometimes.. also i think that is why i am not able to run yahoo messenger without having trouble with my pc .. thanks for all these..i will check them out..cichlid2006;2970360; said:i used norton once and i swore never again. its a pure system hog. these days there are more internet security suites availible that are so much lighter on your pc. im surprised norton still get business for internet security.
bullguard, kaperskay (sp?), the internet security suite by the makers of NOD32 and bit defender 2009 (not the ultimate one) all get good reviews.
I would however get a few back up programs for hunting down specifics such as rootkits and spyware. most security packages are less good with these than your run of the mill virus. programs that are good are:
superantispyware (free edition)
malwarebytes (free edition)
CCleaner
windows defender
windows malicious software removal tool
unhackme (had a stubborn rootkit for the past 2 days but this got the job done).
hijackthis (for getting a software report to post on geek sites for help)
have fun going through all the free editions.
you have just experienced "The Blue Screen Of Death" dont wory its not a virus it just means windows had an error and needed to close, once you reboot all should be well, if it continues however you might have a hardware problem such as a bad stick of RAMpolish;2969967; said:My PC is working ok at work but last night at home about 1am my GF was on ours and it locked up right as she unplugged her MP3 player.
