Aqua C Remora skimmers are Junk!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
This is the BEST skim we got out of it. Probably the only time we got any that dark brown

This is what it looked like when my husband took a picture a few days ago.

Now it's not even THAT dark, it's just completely clear, fills up quickly and then starts overflowing. You notice even in the last pic it was high enough that it was overflowing the skimmer cup.

That first pic looks about like what mine pulls out. It's definately pulling stuff out though. Maybe run it a while longer and see if things change.

Hmmm. Well I beg to differ, clear water is not proper skimmate to me. This skimmer has been running for a month, so how long should I run it until I finally give up?

Hopefully the company can either give an explanation or my money back.

Hopefully AquaC will give you an answer.
Here's another thought. When you lift the collection cup up, is the little white plug (screw) in the pipe just above where it exits the pipe?

Not completely sure where you meant. There's a little white thing where the bubbles come out underneath the cup. If this is what you mean then yes. Otherwise I think I'm gonna have to stand on a chair and look because I'm really short and that's all I saw, lol.

From the reading I've been doing maybe they just don't have good quality control. Some people have the exact same problems as me and others have skimmers that work fine, but I didn't see any reason why my skimmer would be doing this:confused:

Right now the skimmer is actually working as it should, but what about tomorrow? I don't like having a skimmer that works really good sometimes but pulls out water and overflows other times. What if it pulls a bunch of crap out then starts sucking water and dumps all that stuff back into my tank?

If I do get this thing working pretty consistently I think I may just keep it for backup and look into a Deltec. I'd kind of like to get the pump out of the tank anyway since it's pretty ugly.

if you get your money back, try an ASM skimmer. I would recommmend an insump model just because i feel they work better. I think its just me though lol. I would say run it longer and let it break in but its been on for about a month and a half or so?? Im not to familier with the Aqua-C remora brand either but i would think that if your adjusting it as normal and its set to the proper height then maybe its a bad model. The company should stand behind the product and hopefully give you your money back. Again try and ASM model and see what happens if you plan on getting a different one.

Thanks for the recommendation.

Unfortunately there's no sump on this tank right now so it would have to be HOB. If there was a sump I'd put my Coralife 220 on there. Technically I could put it on the back but I don't like how touchy they are about water level, so I'd rather not.

Bumping my post to the next page. My reply is too long for the wide page caused by the pic in post 11.
