my ac 70 started to leak just like you guys have stated..

it was because I added the ammonia remover with the sponge, carbon, and bio media. making the amount of media 4 instead of 3, thus the water lever rose to the back and started to slowly overflow all over our wood floors.... fun to clean up

The volume of media in the filter shouldn't have any impact on the water level within the HOB...

The only way this filter can possibly spill onto the floor is if it is tilted back...

I mean absolutely no disrespect to anyone on this... but claiming "product mailfunction" when the reality is "user error" is misleading members...

I believe(though have not experienced) that a level AC110 can overflow. It would require a gross lack of maintenance to have the media clog. The clogged media will cause the basket to rise. Once the media basket rises enough the water will flow into the area of the intake tube. The raised media basket lifts the lid and creates a enough blockage that all the water can not flow out the designed overflow area, so there is overflowing over the rim of the level filter.

Having an unlevel filter would greatly increase this. Hagen recommends cleanings every two weeks. Modified media that could clog quicker may not be a good idea.

Good point Brian...

Thus supporting the previous suggestion of having it tilted slightly toward the front... In which case it will overflow to the front... and into the tank...

I have experienced the AC leak.

what happened was I had not cleaned the filter in ages, the media basket was pushed up.

this pushes the lid up as well creating a gap for water to drip down. it can happen.

but it can only happen if the media basket is pushed up. when this happens, the water 'bunches up' around the basket (because it cannot flow through the media very well as it is clogged) and partially flows around the media basket rather than through it.

since the lid is pushed up because of the clogged media, this water can drip through the gap from the pushed up lid and on to the floor.

it can happen. but you have to really neglect cleaning for this to occur.

I think in 20 years, I have had this happen once.

so removing this part has no effect on flow?

I wouldn't know, I threw them all away!...I would recommend using all of the parts that come with most anything.

amazing, but i still have all my black leveler plugs.

good info to know, thanks.

Good call. I keep mine level. Ive never (Crosses fingers) had water come out near the intake or a tray float. But I use the sponge then 2 - 250 ml bags of purigen in 180 micron bags then a bag of substrate pro. No real special micron media.
I was curious to see why hybridtheory does not like his aquaclear as he mentions in his sig. I love mine.

I actually thought that his sig is quite funny:)

How long do you think did you not clean it? and you had AC for that long time already?
