No I would not use the ammonia chips. Use the biomax. Is your tank cycled already or are you setting up new?

Use a sponge in the bottom, and pack it to the top with bio

I just use the foam and biomax, shouldn't need carbon or ammonia chips unless something is wrong with the tank, aka, not cycled. As for carbon, i just use it for removing meds and thats it. My tanks don't smell so I'll take that as a good thing.

Honestly in a ac110 if you are going to use ammonia chips, just substitute them for the carbon. Always use the bio-max, and don't ever rinse it out. The bio-max is BB media and should always be in the filter. So your new order would be
"Foam --> Ammo chips --> Biomax"


If your ammonia isnt high, just leave the carbon where it is.
"Foam --> Carbon --> Biomax"

I don't use carbon but I did stick a bag of ammonia remover chip in my AC? How long does that last?
