This thread picked up big time
Thanks for the videos also.Sounds really quiet to me.A hum but no more than that I'd guess and it's good to hear all positive votes up to now also.
nice setup.
i too am looking at an ultima (6000) with perhaps a sock filter post the ultima.
as good as the ultima is, i'm just not sure it would stop the fine particles getting through unless assisted with a sock cartridge filter also.
combined i think the pairing would be great and hopefully give crystal clear water. my only concern with this set up is that you can't backflush the sock filter and this will be messy in my situation.
the only other option i can think of is the advantage bead + glass filter which should give an awesome result but will cost more $$$
PS ... why aren't these filters available in Australia?
Which size Ultima II is recommended for a 500g? And would a Fluval FX6 used before the Ultima work well for mechanical? Full of filter floss type and carbon etc? So Ultima will be for mainly biological.
Unless you have a specific flow rate you want to use, an Ultima II 1000 with an optimal flow rate of 1000 gph should be more than adequate for a 500 gallon tank.
A lot of people go with much bigger models such as Spiff44 with two 4000s on his 1700 gallon tank. Typically, Ultimas are used in pond applications, so even the Ultima II 1000 is rated for bodies of water from 500 to 1000 gallons.
