I've had it sitting on the shelf for a few months before putting it to use a few dsys ago, filled it up,plugged it in and it came right on as if it was brand new.Now just yesterday I unplugged it to do some work on the tank and after I plugged it in to restart it it did not come on.
I totally dismantled yhe filter and everything looks to be in order and I hear a faint humming sound coming from the motor unit whike it is plugged in so I'm wondering if the impeller needs replacing or the entire unit.

Pull the intake tube up and give the propeller a spin with a straw or wooded skewer. I had one like this awhile ago, everytime power was cut I would have to give it a bump to start it.
I've taken the thing apart, pulled out inspected and cleaned the impellar but I did not do what you've suggested.I'll give that a shot too.

Mine was the same way. Completely take it apart, clean it, put it back together, put it back on the tank, and nothing. I would fill it with water, then give the propeller a poke and off it went.

That sounds encouraging,I'll give it a go when I get back home.

One on the AC50's on Juan's tank is this way. Even after multiple cleanings, every now and then it needs a nudge, then off to the races like nothing was ever wrong....

Probably just the impeller. I had one fail and I saw very fine hairline crack on the magnet. I believe it let water inside of the magnet and corroded it. I didnt see the corrosion but something changed the shape of the impeller and made it tight on the shaft. The corrosion caused swelling of the impeller where it rides on the shaft maybe? It was a little hard to spin and when i got my new impeller it spun so easily by hand.

The bonus is that my canister is way quieter now. Just get a new impeller.
