Tap water kills the "good" bacteria, no matter what the temp. The sponges in my AC110s are for mechanical filtration and I want to remove as much undisolve particulate watse as possible. The "good" bacteria has more then enough area to colonize with a bag of biomax in each AC and the 2 liters of biomedia in the xp3.

Yup!

I would go no more than a lightly to mildly stocked 60.

It depends on the tap water. High chlorine or chloramines will kill the BB. Water with low chlorine or zero chloramines is just fine. As long as you have good water and match the temp within a couple degrees then nothing will die.

I would never buy a AC110 as I can get a canister filter with the same g/ph rating which stores more media but for 2/3 the cost of a new AC110.

Not that you'd ever buy the product, but the price is listed in Aquarium Keeper Australia Magazine at the back in every issue. The canister's price? 99 Bucks. Cheap as chips. The AC110 evidently costs $150, which mind you is the cheapest I've ever seen it listed.

I assume you mean I would never buy it due to availability? AC 110's are not 150. They are 69.99 on average not on sale....
