If you have a good coarse sponge for a prefilter media like biomax should realy only require a quick rinse every six months or so. The prefilter is what requires the most maintanace, usually a once a month rinse, or when ever it gets clogged up.
I think this is probably true,but I personally change about 50% of my biomax
a year.Gotta keep the flow:D
 
that's fine...I use it whenever I find it. To be brutally honest here...it's all about serface area...the BB don't care what brand the media is... I can fill three or four canisters with the bulk media for the cost of a single box of the "name" brand stuff and never see the slightest differance in preformance.
 
Ah,,I agree. I just meant that I thought it was a good idea to replace the bio material(or part of it )every 6 to 12 months.No name or brand name ,it doesn't matter.
