Okay so I got an aquaclear 110 in june and I loved it to death. It was an amzing filter than ran very smoothly until about a couple of months ago. The propeler kept making this horrid grinding sound. I learned that it might be sand so I cleaned it out and it worked fine. Now about a one month ago we had a blackout for a while and ofcorse the filter stopped working right and the grinding sound came back. But now it won't even start. It keeps making this loud churning sound and the water just slowly rises and falls within the filter. I can't get it to start working normaly and im loosing my patience. Thank God for that rena filstar I have or I would have no filter for the tank.

Now don't get me wrong I love the filter it does it's job extremely well... when it's working! Any tips on how I can get it moving again. I have already cleaned the entire unit and I don't know what else to do.

Mine is SO loud when starting up it could wake up the entire house! I have to prime mine, what i do is fill it up before i plug in the filter to save myself from a weekly heart attack

if the water is rising and falling in the filter you probably don't have the U--tube secured properly over the impeller. there is a black plastic peice that must be on the tube in order for it to fit properly over the impeller chamber.

as far as the grinding goes, sounds like the sand may have worn the impeller hole and/or the pin shaft. this causes the impeller to wobble as it spins and makes the noise. both should be replaced and your filter will be quiet again.

Aquaclears taking so work to start but then they never stop. They are the only HOB filter I will buy.

Okay so I have to replace the power box and impeller? that's fine I just want a quite filter again. And again I love the thing it's a great filter im trying to get one on my other tank I just have to keep the sand out of it I guese.

Just the impeller? even better. I know I hear they run forever I guese I just got a little unlucky.
