Got that right...If I get sand in my HOB filter, I have to accept this was user error, not filter malfunction.

If I get sand in my HOB filter, I have to accept this was user error, not filter malfunction. It's shared here daily that we have to keep sand out of HOBs...
But it is inevitable that those of us that use sand will get some caught in our impellers from time to time. Pull out the impeller, stick a turkey baster in the impeller hole and suck/blow/suck/bolow/repeat/etc...
I have Aqua Clear 110s (500s) that are many years old with the original impellers...
I have already gone through the turkey baster thing and completely emptied out the filter of sand. I think at one point it just had too much sand in it because even completely cleaned out it still wouldn't run quite smoothly.
Good tip ! Thanks.deeda;3625846; said:Just a quick note on the AC110. If you can't find the original metal replacement shaft for it, you can always use an Eheim 2217 ceramic shaft. It is a bit longer than the AC one but it works great. I have been using the 2217 shafts on both my AC110's for a year now. They are so quiet I can't hear them running.
