i ran both side by side and a couple days ago my AC crapped out on me so all my tanks aside from those with canisters have marineland filters but it really is opinion

Definitely Aquaclear. I have an Emperor 280 and 2 AC70s and I by far favor the AC70s. Both filters are ~300gph and I really think what sways me towards AC is the clear tubes, and the fact that you can customize what you want inside your filter. You can do that in the Marineland series to some extent, but nowhere near the AC.
aq 110 i have 2 on mine, one of them i have had for almost 20 yrs. you can buy them for around 60-70 on ebay
I have an aqua clear 110 that came with a tank i brought second hand.... i nver used the filter because it rattles alot, was thinking to change the impeller and impeller sharf....would that solve the noise problem????? think of setting it up on a new tank, are these filter silent in operation?
It's a matter of preference really...I only have the emperor 400 and it works great, but I wouldn't turn down an a/c 110 if anybody gave me one...lol
