I got a 200g pond system, and am trying to hook up the the pump to the growing bed... I have a length of garden hose that fits, is this safe for the fish though?

are you asking if the hose is safe or if the growing bed is safe? I use garden hose and a sump pump to clean my tanks with no problems, but I bought the hose for this purpose. I'd just make sure to rinse the hose and you'd be good. As far as the growing bed I'd think you'd be fine as long as you used plain soil, I would think fertilizers and such would be bad for fish.
Before I posted I searched on here and one guy says they are toxic but quite a few people use them to siphon there tanks... guess I'll have to avoid it to be safe!
If your just using to siphon it's okay but if your using it to recirculate it can breakdown and become toxic.
Garden hoses will in fact breakdown and leach chemicals into the water...if exposed to UV light ... so as long as they are kept out of the sun ... your prob pretty good... I wouldn't take the chance though and would buy the white plastic hose as it's made special for the food industry which means that it's safe for humans... ie. safe for fishskynoch;1535037; said:
Okay, redone the whole lot in 1 1/4" pipe...looking sweet, got a couple of little leaks but nothing too major. Glued the biggest last night just off too test it now. Had to go back down the builders merchants to get some more pipe when something AMAZING happened. They had a water and a fuel oil storage tank stacked on a pallet. I asked in jest how much they wanted for them, guy says 20quid...What??? They were ripped out of a job they did and he was wondering how to get rid of them!!! 2x 720gallon tanks for 20 squid!!!!! YES PLEASE!!! The fuel oil is enclosed and really dirty so a lot of cleaning and chopping, but the water tank just needs a clean...I got a new pond...YAY!!!!
