I want to discuss the Aquapure nitrate filter. I did a search and there was one thread with no replies, another that had 32 replies and not one of them spoke to whether the filter works, doesn't work, etc. So here are my rules, if you'll kindly oblige:
1. Don't comment to the fact that water changes can't be replaced by any filter
2. Don't reveal to us the amazing new knowledge of the k.i.s.s theory
3. Please DO share with us if you have experience with one, know someone who's had experience, or even heard a story from a third person

You may want to stick to tradtional filtration, that's great, but I do weekly water changes and in-between I ride as much as 20-30 ppm nitrates. I'm interested in, and my rays are too, in having pristine water of 0 ppm all the time so I reach out to the MFK community to gather credible data as to the effectiveness of the Aquapure.

Never heard of this does it remove the waste ????? i would assume the waste would have to be removed to remove nitrate Yes?????

Sorry about that, its actually the aquaripure...try that.

It seems to me that it works in the same way live rock does in a sw aquarium. If thats the case i can see it helping somewhat

i saw this last year, and looked it up. there are different sized models, but for what we would need on our ray tanks, the "canister" would be the 6ft tall one, which is crazy expensive and honestly, I don't see it making that much of an impact.
that's just my opinion as i've never come across a ray keeper who has used it.

I've had customers use and used nitrate removal via chemicals, media, ect ... And not a single one has worked better then live plants in the long run. A few of the chemicals have helped for bandaid jobs but nothing that was either cost effective or not a pita to use long term.

They do exist in the aquariums and zoos ... But I imagine they aren't cheap or youde see them in homes more often.

OK I don't want to break any of your rules, and it would be good to hear about whether these products work or not - but what about plants for your setup? They are proven to remove nitrates, and if you can stick a bunch of pothos in your sump or some other area, they won't interfere with the look of your tank, and are maintenance free. If you're running 20-30 ppm between changes, I would think plants could get down to 10ppm maybe less.

I use API Nitra-Zorb bags in my sump. Maybe you can use nitrate-absorbing media in your current setup? Frankly I'm not sure if they're having any effect as it's a heavily planted tank to begin with, but I like doing my magic chicken voodoo dances because they comfort me.
