Aquapure Nitrate Filter

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I use API Nitra-Zorb bags in my sump. Maybe you can use nitrate-absorbing media in your current setup? Frankly I'm not sure if they're having any effect as it's a heavily planted tank to begin with, but I like doing my magic chicken voodoo dances because they comfort me.

Hahaha

i have used a shuran nitrate reactor and the aquamedic nr1000 bother were rubbish

the aquamedic one uses deniball and the shuran type can run on glass media or sulpha beads i used all ways and they are crap

the type with glass media works best but you need to add alchol via a dosing pump

they are to much hassle as they lower ph and you need to run the water throw a calcium ractor after the nitrate reactor

they are also crap for large tanks like a ray tank as the flow needs to be super slow like 1 drop per second

why the big focus on nitrates it isnt that much of a big deal in a ray tank as long as you do 1-2 water changes per week it will all be fine no need to add all the extra bits of kit

Ya, I watched the video on youtube. It didn't seem like it would work well unless you had enough flow rate and even then, putting electricity on a pump might run the same as water. Water here is cheaper than electricity in terms of how much I get out of what I use. I run a RO in my house to save the gas to the water well where its 30 cents a gallon. The $90 for filters comes back pretty quick in terms of the cost of gas to get a water change done or worse yet, take care of a hazard. It just didn't seem cost effective for what I would get out of it.

Having read this thread, I think I would try to setup a planted aquarium to the side and use it as a sump before my filter sump if that makes sense. Chain them to run from the main tank to the plant aquarium to the sump and back again. I got a feeling my fish would eat if not at least destroy the plants in the tank. My plan for the tank is to take everything out of it. I heard Pacus destroy heaters after I lost my first two and he hasn't proved otherwise. He killed and ate my intake tube to my OTR as well. That was a good week.

Maybe there are more suggestions out there for aquaripure after 9 months?
