Aquaria Central

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I was personally shocked when the ones at AC told me that my turtles were not a big enough BIO LOAD for my 120 to kick start it! :irked: They claimed that the only way to start a cycle was ether to use ammonia or fish. Its like people are affraid to reach beyond a book and use the minds in which we were blessed with. My whole thing with MFK is that we can try out new ideas and spread them for all to learn!

I think I'll stay were i'm at... MFK Baby!!

For those that are interested, the thread that dr_sudz refers to is

If you care to review it, you will not find anybody claiming that the turtles were not a big enough bio-load to kick start your tank.

All I personally mentioned was, that I thought two turtles was a small bio-load for a tank that large. Never siad a word about a cycle. Last time I checked, two turtles is a fairly small bio-load for a tank that size.

Others mentioned how they thought you should do the kick start. None of them said diddley that what you are doing wouldn't work or that you shouldn't.

Then you had a tad bit of entertainment with CHOMPERS.

And then your post got edited by me for language that is unsuitable for AC.

Kind of smacks like a person acting as a newbie on one site so he can go to another and show issues.

Now that I have clarified what post I am referring to, to answer your question in your PM that I asked you to respond to, I hope we can keep things on an even keel and upfront about we did or didn't post, advice you did or didn't get and not muddy the waters for personal entertainment.

Basically the way I took your saying that turtles are not a big enough bio load for this tank, was very closed minded. You never asked what size my turtles were nor the species. This plays a very large impact on the bio load of any tank. I would think that the idea of using something other then Ammonia or fish to start a cycle, would be something that alot of hobbiest would like to think about seeing that everyone is looking for alternative ideas to using fish in any tank. Plus it gives you something to look at while your going through your cycling anyways.

And I will appologize for the supposed language said on the post I will be more careful about what I say there if anything from now on.

But my reason for posting is not to make enemys, but to share new ideas and to learn from others.

I apologize for not being clear enough. I was just thinking, big tank and two turtles...what could I do? I also assumed, which I shouldn't have, that you were just using them to cycle the tank, not really concerned about their size or species.

It would be great to introduce more out of the box ideas at AC. I think if we post those ideas up front, just as that, and refer to our experiences doing it, will make the post clearer.

Glad to have you at AC, we need some new insight for all. Once again, my apologies for any mis-interpetation.

Seeing you have a site that is attracting alot of newbes why not have a rating system that tells people right under there avatar or name what level of fish keeping they are in? Keep the confusion down. Then again it would take the people to actually look at the experince rating, which in my experince people just do what they want even when told your not that other person you just took over the job for...

I believe the new update that is about to take place has several rating lines available to admin and staff. Not only for trader ratings but for corrective actions and others. Maybe a board of mods from all sites to do the rating on members once they hit a certain post level or reliability level with members? Hard call....

I think they toyed with the idea of doing that here, atleast the members suggestions, and said to have a relyablitiy rating could be hard to keep up for the numerous amount of members.

Hey Bishop, it seems like we got off on a wrong foot but I hope alls worked out now. I hope to see you around both MFK and AC soon, feel free to edit as needed
