aquarium cover for big fish

Wondering if there was some kind of soft cushening you can put under the glass to absorb shock when a big fish hits it so the fish and the glass both have less shock.

I have used eggcrate topped with glass, expoxied together for tank covers, I have also used those brass latches for furniture (the ones that look like hinges) to hold down the lids of tanks that contain escape prone fish, especially eels. They are only a couple bucks a set at homeimprovement stores or walmarts.
