well they were supposed to be going in the 38 the day i said it but then i noticed this 50 so i stopped and started deciding. and by aggressive i mean i want something that will eat goldfish .. but not destroy everything in my tank either.

and about oddball, you guys or him aren't telling me I don't already know. i know how fast they grow and big they get. If I didn't i would be asking that question not these. I know the answer to that already. I get the picture. and the fact of the money is that the gf is getting it for my for christmas just early .. So I can't really wait and get her to spend more. plus most of my own money goes into my car. I'm 18 and in university. I barely make enough for insurance and gas let alone to keep doing stuff to my car. so at the moment i can't afford to chip in a few hundered to get a tank. that will change when they get bigger.

Awesome girlfriend!!!!

But let me just get this out. You say you are strapped for cash, but you want these fish that to properly care for you will have to dump a ton of money on??? It is not way in the future when the housing needs of these fish will change. It is July-Sept at the latest when you will see that these fish will be badly cramped in their 50.

Ok enough about your lack of planning and funds to remedy the situation. I'm a little curiouis about a fish that will eat goldfish yet leave others alone. ids will eat goldfish, but that will not be a recomended practice. Good luck. Put the NOS system on hold and save for the 300 instead.

funds change .. I am in school now. so i'm not really working. School ends in april and and by july i'll have a few grand to play with so thats not a bi deal. but until then they are either going to go i the 50. or be stuck in a ten gallon until july .. so I figure 50 would be better then a 10 for now. and yeah I know it's nto a recomended practice. I love my sharks so far and I wanted something that I could show off. I'm only 18 and my friends are around my age so It's hard to show of just nice fish .. no one would really care. But when you say you have sharks (even though i know they aren't technically sharks) it's a different reaction. they just seem more bad ass. Either way I like them and plan to keep them and take care of them. i'm not going to just keep them in a too small tank and let them die. I'm not cruel. Plus I might be moving out this summer into new place which will have the room for a bigger tank. at the moment I have room for the 50 but I would have no where to put a 300 and my parents won't let me keep my tank anywhere besides my room soo. bit of a delema. Bottm line is until the summer they are either getting stuck in a 10 .. or i'll get them a 50. Little clearer or do I need to further explain. I really thought this site was gonig to be more helpful when I first joined.

Great. I'm glad you are dedicated to the fish. Of course the 50 is better than the 10. Advice you have gotten (maybe not from me) :) has been sound. What kind of help do you want? We are not going to tell you that these are easy fish, cause they're not. You are not going to be told that your 50 is adequate, cause it's not (though I'm glad you are getting it). Your questions about feeding have been answered. Not many people will give suggestions on tankmates for a fish that will bigger than the tank it will be kept in. I think that id are badass fish just as you do and I don't want you not to keep them, just to be aware of all the crap that comes with caring for them properly. Just because you don't hear the advice you want doesn't mean that it is bad advice.
What other questions do you have?

I absolutely understand that sometimes what people say may sound harsh! But these guys really do give good advice! And good luck on ur tank =) i'm sure it'll look great!

If you really love your ir sharks, it would be better to give them up to someone who can properly house them for the long run. You can get more later. Cramping them doesn't show they're loved and cared for properly. That kind of rationalizing is akin to keeping a pony on a condo balcony and saying, "it'll have plenty of room once I can afford to buy a house with some acreage before it's an adult." Finances, as well as the economy change. There's no guarantee the animal will have the space it needs when it needs it. Over 40+ years, I've had to bypass keeping many species that I really wanted to keep simply because I couldn't properly house them or afford to meet their special feeding/care needs. But, eventually, I arrived at points where I could provide for the needs for alot of those species that were previously passed by. Patience is indeed a virtue in this hobby. One just has to get through the "I want..." factor with a healthy dose of filtering in the true needs of the animals.

its hard to not get the fish u want right now. but i advise to be patient and listen to the other keers of those monsters. like that guy ^^^ trust me i had nothing but a 10 and a 20g for a loooooong time. i had fish i had to pass on even free monsters i just couldnt take i thought ide never get a chance at. now i have 12 tanks and it just get more everday. now i can buy monster fish and grow them out from tank to tank until they reach by biggest tank and im happy that i can constantly provide that for the fish now and that i waited its fine if u have the sharks now in the 50 would b way better atleast your already upgrading which is good. but u cant count that once they get to big for the 50 you'll be ready to just run out and buy a bgigger tank. If u dont have biggr and bigger tanks already you will find that its not easy to just upgarde on the fly at whatever point in your life your in and in the end the sharks might end having to be in the 50 for alot longer that u think and it will become harmful to them and they wont be properly cared for. And its not always easy later at 12" to get a LFS to take them in. Not many would.

x3. Keep what you have the facilities to keep, not what you want. If it was up to me, I'd run out and spring the $550 on an AUL now. Of course, I wouldn't be able to house him in the long run since I'm stuck in an apartment for law school. There's also the uncertainty of vacations, internships, and general time away from the tank.

=) GRAB THE BIGGER TANK!!!
I got my 60 gallon 2 months ago, and I thought... yah.. that's enuff =) it will never be enuff! Already planning on the 180gallon now!
