When you said "rock" I thought for a minute, oh here we go, someone's showing off with an extremely expensive piece of jewellery with a whopping big diamond in it or something, lol. But you weren't kidding......it's just a plain old rock!!! Someone's a cheap skate in your house, lol.
Lol, I got a plan, since rocks go by pounds per $4. Started this in winter vacation, every time I go to my lfs, I’ll buy a single small rock for less than a dollar(sometimes then don’t even charge me), I’m saving money lol. But really I got actual presents, just nothing fish related besides a mini fly fishing rod.

Unless it's some kind of speciality rock i'll never be able to get my head around anyone buying rocks from a fish store. Especially a fisherman who frequents streams and rivers where rocks are abundant, lol.

I hope the mini size of your rod isn't a reflection on the size of fish you catch!! If it is you need to take it back and get a "maxi fly fishing rod".

my lfs does sell very pretty rocks, and ones from far off places. I can understand buying seiryu for a scape and such. But rocks from lfs are very over priced

The rod is a joke/toy, I don’t even think I can cast it, but it’s something I can throw in my backpack or pocket. This is it https://www.amazon.com/YOGAYET-Aluminum-Portable-Telescopic-Extended/dp/B08C7BJ6C6

Cool! I have something along the lines of that. It’s a 4 foot long stream - trout rod. Two pieces too! I love my UL! It’s spinning and I got a reel rated for salt water aswell! Totally worth it

What do you mean joke/toy? You're giving me an inferiority complex here, most of my fishing tackle is similar to that!!! Lol.
same here! I love light tackle. It would be cool to make a thread comparing english and american fishing. I love my english fishing magazines, and from reading them I can things are a lot more finnesse there. It was also that way in portugal, probably because the stocks there suck. (fish stocks)

The only fishing from the US i've seen is the bass fishing. The guys frantically chuck there lures out and it's a case of getting as many fish in the tub for weighing as possible. It's all mad and fast. The match fishing scene in the UK is similarly highly charged. All that competition type fishing is not my cup of tea at all.

I prefer the more relaxed approach of pleasure fishing. Fishing for me is not even about catching fish, it's about getting away from it all for a few hours, if you catch any fish, well that's an added bonus. And we have some beautiful freshwater fish over here. The best days are when you're on your own, the weather's kind to you, seldom the case in the uk, and the fish are biting.

I've still got all my gear but rarely go fishing nowadays, other things have taken over, but i'll never get rid of my stuff just in case I fancy wetting a line sometime.
