aquarium heater

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've given up on eheim jagers since buying 4 faulty heaters that just wouldn't turn off. I'm now using the Via Aqua quartz heaters and they're pretty good.

And they're like dirt cheap which is a bonus for me since my fish have a habit of breaking heaters.

i use tetra

My last tetra heater got stuck on and fried my son's glofish tank...I would steer clear of them.

I run AquaTop on my tanks. I've had one running over two years without issue, although that one has started to have slightly irradic temps over these past few weeks. They are usually pretty cheap on Amazon and are currently the only heaters in all of my tanks.

I have been wanting to try the ViaAqua heaters because of their price point so it's great to hear that they are working for souzie. I will probably give those a go next time I buy heaters.

The main thing is to make sure you have a good controller to act as a backup in case they get stuck on. This will protect your fish from getting cooked. Believe me, it's not a fun experience. I use InkBird 308 controllers and a lot of people on here use Rancos with great success. The InkBird 308's are about $35 on Amazon. I just bought another at $33.99 the other day.

I have aquatop and aqueon. Both serve their purpose well. I think I like the aquatop a bit more though for ease of setting the exact temp I want.
Both hold temp well and I haven't had any issues.

I use Eheim jager. But I have to admit the quality and durability are not as good as when they were Ebo jager.

Hydor makes decent heaters. My 25 watt theo is 4 years old or so and still working well. I use it on my quarantine though.

On the 90 I think it's an aqueon, needs a replacement soon though, if the cord gets wiggled at all it shuts off. It came with the tank which is 20 years old so no idea how old it is. I've been worried about it failing so I won't go that route again.

On the 29 I have a sera 200 watt heater that came with it, works great, really beefy with a guard too. No issues with it but setting the temp is a little difficult, was used as a nano reef previously so it's crusty.

The 20 long just has a basic marineland visi therm. Had it for 3-4 years also.

Yes, rubencito. If you set the heater to 90 and then the controller to 82, the temp will only go up to 82. Likewise, if you set the heater to 82 and the controller to 90, the temp will still only go up to 82. Either way, both the controller and the heater thermostat would have to fail in order to cause major temp issues in the tank.
