Hello everyone i'm new to the forums, and have just recently purchased a 70 gallon tank and have a few questions. I've done some research on each of these fish, but I was told to come here if I had any more questions about the fish. The first fish id like to get some questions answered about is a Red Tailed cat. I found a local pet shop that sells 2" Red Tailed cats, could anyone give me some info on what they eat and how often to feed them? Also how fast would they outgrow a 70 gallon tank? The second fish is a Peacock Bass. Ive done some research, but am not sure how fast they would outgrow a 70 gallon, also can it be kept with the Red tail? Theyre 3" atm, 1" bigger than the Red Tail. The 3rd is a Silver Arowana. He is currently 3" long and in the tank by himself. Would these 3 fish be able to live in the same tank together? I live in NY and it gets pretty cold during the winter, would I need a heat source to keep the tank warm? Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Ok...The rtc should outgrow that tank in a matter of weeks. 3 or 4 maybe.

Arowana, give it two or three months and then you have to upgrade...

Peacock bass, im not too familiar on, but probably close to the arowana.

They would be able to live together, im pretty sure, and yes, you'll need a heater.

you definitely need a heather, and with that tank you can pull it off for about month with the RTC, If you're not planning in getting 200+ gallon tank, I'd say look for smaller fish.

I would advise against a red tail cat. They grow at an enormous rate. Silver aros grow at about an inch a month. 70g would not hold any of those fish very long. Here are a couple of pics of my red tail/tiger shovel nose hybred. The first pic was taken 2 months ago--he was about 9-10". The second pic I just took--he's about 17"+. Notice that is the same piece of 4" pvc in both pics. You will need a good heater and a lot of filtration!!!!

Good luck,
Chris

Thats too bad about the RTC ): I really really like them, how expensive is a 150 or 200 gallon tank? I was given the 70 gallon by a friend who's moving. And how expensive would the heater be? Also if the 70 gallon is too small for the RTC, would it be enough for a Tigrinus Cat? The shop I got my fish from also sells African Tiger fish pretty cheap, how would they fare?

Thanks Chris, those are beautiful fish (: is there any catfish that youd recommend for a 70g? Heres a list of some of the fish my local shop sells that im interested in, could any of these live in a 70g? African Tiger fish, Tigrinus Cat, Peacock Bass, Shovelnose Cat

i dont think you could or should put any of them in a 70g,unless its temporary. those fish get to 24", maybe the tig cat can go in a 125.

If you're new at fish keeping, I would also advise against a Tig.

Your silver arrowana will outgrow your tank in approx 6 monthes if not sooner. Mine outgrew a 40breeder in less then 4. Start looking for a bigger tank now.

deffinately invest in a heater. and as for cats if you don't mind spending the money for a tigrinis they are fairly small for a cat ( still getting 24") Lima shovel nose may also be more appropriate sized. Tiger shovelnoses get just as big as RTC's.
