Hello Everyone
I have a 55 gallon aquarium, with an eheim classic canister filter.(Hoping not to have to upgrade)
I was wondering what large cichlids I could keep.
Severum?
Oscar?
Green Terror?
Earth Eater?
I can provide more information is you would like.

a full grown severum requires 50 gallons of water, so I say 1 severum. Your tank is too small for a full grown oscar.

most of the fish listed aren't great matches for that tank, if it's a standard size of 12" wide. an oscar - definitely not. the severums and green terror could get too big, but maybe not. 8"-12" and while 8" in 12" is doable, I wouldn't. I don't go larger than half the width.
the eartheaters, it depends, some can hit 12" and that's too big, but there are smaller ones, sorry I don't know them, but it shouldn't be hard to figure it out.

Depends on what you are willing to accept. You can do a severum with some dithers and a bottom crew, but it will be just the one big fish in the tank and they can max out at 12" in optimal conditions, so it might get to a point where you will either need to upgrade to a larger tank or rehome the sev. A rotkeils maxes out around 8-10", so would be more size appropriate. Female GT would pretty much be the same.

The alternative is getting a planted tank with a bunch of dwarves. One of the things I intend to do with my 55 is keep 4-6 angels (depends on how aggressive they get in the space) with a pair of Bolivian rams and a trio of apistos (if I can get my hands on a quality trio. Otherwise it will be 2 more Bolivians). The tank will be heavily planted and I expect it will look perfect for the type of keeper I am (I don't like too much aggression, but enough to keep things from being stagnant and boring).

I agree with the others above, a 55 is really too small for the fish on your list. if you want just 1 fish, it might work, but there are plenty of alternatives like the fish Mythic figment lists. Or
Most Gymnogeophagus stay small, are colorful, you could have a male and 3 females

Some of the Cryptoheros species are also small enough for a small tank like a 55.
a group of Cryptoheros nanoluteus would work

Australoheros red ceibals might just make it, as they top out about 6"-7"

The Gymnos or red ceibals would not need a heater.

I was hoping just to keep one fish in the 55. Does that change my options?
The Cichlids I listed were just some that are common at my local pet store.
