There was a thread about why shoplights aren't the best for focusing light down into the tank, they just cast light to widely. They're best for illuminating a shop.

Best go with the link sostoudt posted below, better for growing plants, even illumination, etc.

You can get the fixtures, and just get different bulbs for your needs from your lfs..

Home Depot sells "Aquarium and Plant Bulbs" now, not sure if they are of the right spectrum for plants though.

do they come with ballast(if you need one)

heres a site with some you can look over they come with reef bulbs i think one 10k and one actinic.
the bulbs are pretty low quality. but these are the cheapest new lighting you can buy. odyssea its like rc cola
