I've noticed that if the filter floss I have in my hobs and sumps isn't fully submerged they wick that smell into the air... I placed small flat decor stones on it all just enough to submerge it not squash it. Worked in my situation
I had recently cleaned a filter sponge out n it smelled pretty bad but it's fully submerged and it stinks lol that's what I'm thinking it is so I'm going to throw out the pad and 're clean the filter a d set it back up and see what happens
Ever sinced I've increased my w/c to 50% every 3-4 days, my filter pads/floss/sponges no longer have any offensive smell, but rather a very mild earthy smell. This is some times from filters that haven't been cleaned out for 3 months.
Hello; The "stuff like that" you reference. Beyond a water conditioner such as safe or prime, what might this be?
If you already mentioned it I missed it, but what is the stocking density of the tanks?
Do the tanks have any live plants?
Tanks in a home can, and usually do, raise the humidity of the room air. This becomes more of an issue during the cold months. The dampness can encourage smells and also the growth of mold.
My current home has only a heat pump. I had serious dampness issues compared to a previous house with an oil furnace. A DE-humidifier running in the cold months helps. During the warm months the AC removes the moisture or I have the windows open.
