Aquarium Night Lights?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have the Lunar LEDs on my tank and my fish still are skiddish with those on. They look cool, but for night viewing I would you a red LED flashlight, Or install red LEds on your tank.. I put a red balloon over a flashlight and it works pretty good. Do a google search on night viewing with red lights. RED light all they way..

On my 90 pleco acrylic tank I use a flurescent light that is made for a 5 gallon tank. It has a standard flurescent bulb made for a 5 gallon. This is just dimm enough that the plecos come out and you could see them with ease. I leave the basement light off when I want to view my plecos. This works great for me and my nocturnal cats.

I was told by most to use blue to mimic the moon... and now red?! I can understand why red would work, I use to catch worms after a storm to go fishing and to find them you had to use a red light, all other colors they could see and would retract into the ground when other lights were shined on them.... But now I don't know which would be better.... Red or Blue?!

PURPLE? :headbang2

I guess either would work, it differs for your fish to other peoples fish. My advice is to try both, put a red balloon over a flashlight and get a blue led light and see which one works for you.

Yes, use blue to mimic the moon, but as far as viewing any nocturnal fish, you want to use a red light. If you are just trying to simulate the moon, I would use the blue lunar lights.. If you are trying to actually watch your fish and how they behave at night, turn out all your lights, wait awhile then go look at your tank with a red light. You will be amazed at what you see.. Especially if you have SW..
