You should add salt on every water change

:grinno:

Haven't in over 25 years. never.

I have done the 1 tablespoon per 5g, I have done none.

I have never charted color to see the difference.

I started using it to treat Pop-eye in my JD & it worked wonders over meds, I read that you can add it all the time & I did for a while but not recently.

Lets all go down to the lake & taste the water, it sure aint "fresh" :grinno: the lakes here have very dis-stink (certainly not de-stink) traits. There are many natural salt veins that affect the salinity.

If you test lake & river water you will find salt, now we need to test the native waters that your fish hail from & match the sg.

i started using salt in 2 of my tanks only 2 days ago and my fish seem more fiesty, but it could be in my head as well! my aro has became more aggressive, my tinfoil barbs look like chew toys now. has anyone used salt with rbp's before? i havent tried it yet because they are hard to come by here;)

it doesn't hurt to add aquarium salt unless youhave salt sensitive sp. :) I've read somewhere that it makes ammonia less harmful when added

I used to use salt but that went out the window with the carbon when I stepped up to 50% weekly waterchanges.I do use some salt in my tang shelldweller in combo with mg,k salts and buffers.I do treat injured fish in a salted hospital tank though, still old school on that.

I herd salt wasnt't good to use on a regular basis, because then the parasies ect slowly become immune and then the salt doesnt effect in the same way, and becomes jsutg about usless. is that tru? although im sure it still would work as far as cuts go. iv been told jsut to use salt when needed.

personally i don't use the salt for diseases but as a stress tonic for the fish. the salt forms electrolytes which helps the fish with their breathing
