Every water change i add a half cup of aquarium salt to my 180. Everytime i do this the geos scoop it into their mouths and they dont spit it out. Is this harmful to the fish?

Whenever I add salt to a tank I desolve it in warm water, let it cool and add as a liquid. I never put salt crystals directly into an aquarium.

Never thought of that will start doing this next water change. Are my fish in any danger now

Agreed, they should be fine.

I throw the salt into my sump with my setup.

Why do you add salt in the first place? Especially for Geos, they come from fresh river water.

Any freshwater aquarium needs aquarium salt, which is different from salt for Marine aquariums. Aquarium Salt replaces minerals naturally found in freshwater and ESSENTIAL electrolytes that promote fish health and gill function.

If your water has the mineral content RO or DI water, basically devoid of any mineral content at all, yes, but for most cases, as a former water chemist and fish keeper of 50 years, I believe aquarium salt is at best, a waste of money.
