Aquarium shelf design: Need opinions

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My tanks were all newly purchased, which should not leak any time soon. I've been told the average use of an aquarium should be around 10 years or so (please correct me if I'm wrong).
hello; You are not wrong. I have tanks over ten years old in use right now. That said any tank can leak, even new ones. New ones are less likely to leak for sure.

I'm not doubting for a second that you can keep your particle board dry for the 4 or 5 months before you move. The issue I see is that particle board is just not strong enough, doubled up or not, to hold that weight comfortably. I wouldn't trust it anyway.

Also, you'll be taking everything apart in 4 or 5 months when you move. That's when you say you'll build something better and more permanent at your new home.

I see it like this. It could take 2 months before all your tanks are cycled and settled and then you'll be taking them all apart not long after! I don't see the point. The best advice I can give you is hang fire. Wait till you move, then build something proper and get all your tanks up and running at your new home.

Moving is stressful enough as it is without having the added responsibility of moving 5 stocked tanks to boot.
