I have 3 tanks in my bedroom that's kinda small and it does smell sometimes but if you keep up with water changes, don't over feed and change the carbon in the filter it won't smell.

humidity is part of the issue. Either run a dehumidifier or run the A/C and it will be better. I also run an air purifier but that is more to kill any chance of mold growing in the duct work.

usually i find if you haven't vacuumed your gravel or your tank isn't fully cycled it'll be a bit stinky...one of my tanks that's in a baywindow and is my green fry tank...the algae smells like cilantro!!!
