How much is mineral oil per gallon?

oh my..

For some reason I just couldn't bring myself to trust this. Liquid+Computers never ends up good. Not sure about the mineral oil. Would think it would cause some sort of corrosions or wear on the board and such. Could just be the idea not agreeing with me though. Plus you would have to drain that anytime you wanted to work on it or replace something etc. It is hard enough trying to plug things into mother boards etc. now try to do it with oily hands. LOL Could be cool. I just wouldn't do it. Oil works great in many applications but I don't think computers is one of them.

Oil is an insulator and keeps things from corroding. It also does not conduct electricity like tap water does. The oily hands part would suck though.

I stand corrected corrode was the wrong word to use. From my understanding it will ruin electrical contacts though. Not sure of the exact reason and maybe I am wrong but I just don't like it. Plus you couldn't add any drives to the box per say. They would have to be external. CD/DVD, HDD, Floppy, etc. Did you see what happened to the fan when it got filled with oil.

The only long term affect is the motherboards fibrous material becomes saturated with the oil and can cause the electrical traces and solder pads to de-laminate from the board itself.

That is a serious issue but it can be avoided by sealing the edges and all bare openings of the motherboard with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue basiacally).
