I know i just posted a thread but I thought this should be separate from the intro thread.. i have had alot of problems with my aquascapes product. i have had to rebuild the pump twice and the plastic parts of the skimmer are becoming fragile and cracking after 4 years. has anybody else used there stuff? any thoughts or better brands?

My 4000gph just started making noise this week after five years of continous service. It still works fine, but I may replace it this spring and keep my current one as a clean out pump. The only reason I am replacing it is because my pond sits next to our patio and the noise in the skimmer sounds like there is a bunch of angry bees in there.

I only use and recomend Aquascape gear. My father-in-law in now on board after he burned through 2 Lagunas in the past 3 years. He has a 3000gph AquaSurge form Aquascape and it is powerful, quite, very effecient and oil less.

Tsurumi makes burley pumps, but they cost a little more upfront and run about double the wattage as the AquaSurge. They are pretty bullet proof from what I've heard. I don't run them, but know people who do and they like them a lot.

yeah they do that.. 4-5 years they start to wine them **** out on ya... i have 3 others in my garage. and when I e-mailed them and told them about the problem they were kind enough to send a link to the page on there site where i can buy a new over priced one. a friend in the buisness gave me the other pumps his employer had to replace. as i understand they have had a lot of problems with them. I was going to try to make one work out of the three but dont think it will work. and they dont seem to offer a re build kit. bad service and poor product if you ask me.. i wouldn't recommend them to anybody. plus my skimmer basket has gotten brittle and cracked. cheap stuff for 1500 bucks.

That sucks. I have never had a problem with any products new or old. I have the older model skimmer which uses a net as the basket and a rack of brushes for mechanical, so no debris basket issues. I am however on the fence with the newer skimmers that have adjustable weir and rigid basket. The faceplate never really stays in place and the basket is cumbersome. The new 2011 contractor catalog does not have the adjustable faceplate skimmers anymore.

Get your bro-in-law to get you pump at wholesale. The AquaSurges come with a 3 year warranty and can be replaced at any retailer. Keep making noise and get the installer involved.

Sounds like he is tring to get his CAC through Aquascape. If that is the case, he is going to need letters of recomendation and examples of work done. Hold that over his head. It sucks because he gave you a good deal, but with the problems you are having sound like the install should be revisited. The skimmer may have been set at the wrong height if it is cracking.

Do you keep it (skimmer) full of water in the winter?

Does the basket remain in the skimmer in the winter?

What size kit is it? You said 500 gal. somewhere, is it a Micro-pond kit?

the basket comes out in the winter. the skimmer itself is not cracked. its a signature series kit with liner. 3000 gph pump. the basket broke in the summer while i was cleaning it. its just brittle now like the plastic is weathered. my brother in law is not a dependable source.. hes a bit flaky

Not a fan of the rigid baskets for that reason.

Just saw this thread and thought I would chime in. In our area we have lots of routes that contain Aquascape products. Unfortunalty the master distributor in our area no longer carries the brand after 8 years of selling them. We have found the following pump does great and is a mag drive pump motor which is an added plus. If intereted they can be found here http://www.koienterprise.com/Teton-Dynamics-MAG-DRIVE-Submersible-Pond-Pumps-sc-728.html
