so if i wanted java ferns for isntance and wanted them growing from the groud/bottom of my tank how would you suggest that? (curious as I am about to start lvie platns in my tank as well)
 
i would use something like crypts instead but if you were to put the ferns on the bottom id use a lead weight and leave the roots exposed or plant them on some rocks or wood
