in my experience the ray will appreciate more open space, then decoration.

just my .02

oh for sure. i know that. thats why im trying to figure out how to accomodate both .. have open space for the ray to be happy. but also not have just a plain sand bottom. thats why im thinknig a piece of drift wood like in that video so the ray would still have access to below it .. but its still a decent sized piece.

the ray wont be able to glide over the wood if its too big. i would keep the wood small and smooth. also, maybe look for some low smooth rocks and floating plants, like i mentioned earlier.

i know where ur coming from... even im having the same dilemma.

but i decided to give them no decor on the bottom, maybe will add some small rocks or floating plants and the most imp thing for a ray tank IMO a big circular air disk......my guys just love playing in the bubbles.

personally i would keep aquascaping to an absolute mininmalwith these fish. swimming space and sand.

well my plan is to keep it to a minimum but i dont like the look of empty tanks and i would change my stock list before i went with an empty tank. think im just gonna try to find a bigger piece of driftwood that will have mainly an open bottom .. and keep it more to one side of the tank. plus the plants

its going to be difficult to find a big piece of driftwood that the ray will appreciate. anyways, like u said u would rather change ur stock list rather then make the tank most hospitable to the creature - i.e. give it the space it needs.

in that case i would forget about a ray and go with a beautiful decorated community tank. that sounds more ur style.

also just looking at your stock list u r definately going to want more like 6 endlis rather than 2 ;)

im pretty sure either way the ray will be fine. .. when he hits too big for the driftwood it will be out .. as i stated previously .. once hes too big for the deco's i will then have no problem going empty tank beside top but for the first year or so at least that i can get away with it i plan to. especially as the bichirs grow .. give them a little happieness too.

and to the second comment. sorry endli's weren't even supposed to be on that list. only really lookin at sens n delz. maybee ornate depending

im just saying you are going to want lower jaws no way upper jaws will hang with that stock

You can always try hanging root driftwood from the top of the tank. That always looks nice.
