The water in my gator gar pond is all green and slimy. I change water every other day but it doesn't help as the algae have taken hold. I am thinking of using aquatic algaecide to get rid of the algae. Has anyone ever used aquatic ageacide in a tank with gars?

what's the size and volume of your pond? temperature? you realize by constantly changing the water you are just opening up more volume/resources for the algae to continually take over, right?
would be best to leave the pond alone for a bit and let the algae die off after it consumes the nutrients...you could also go with some other plants. the gar should be fine with excess algae, but we don't know what other fishes you have in there.
i've used algaecides with tanks before and they hardly ever work; didn't seem to bother the gars much--

It is a 6'x5' small outdoor pond and temp is about 58F. I keep koi with the gars as they are the only fishes which can withstand the elements of the outdoors here. Since you have used algaecide with gars, I will try it to see if the water quality improves.
